Watercolor painting is easy when you learn it one step at a time. This workshop will provide a sequence of easy exercises designed to save you months of trial and error frustration. If you want to find a way to express your creativity in your off hours, painting watercolors will delight and challenge you for years to come. Capitalizing on the spontaneous characteristic of watercolor, the exercises in these classes have been selected to give you the confidence you will need to continue painting watercolors on your own.

During this one day of demonstrations and hands-on exercises you will learn the magic of spontaneous watercolor painting; paint small abstract watercolors for gifts or greeting cards; learn brush techniques for quickly painting various subjects, how to paint trees, small figures, skies, still life subjects, and waterfalls; lay a foundation of skills so that you can continue to paint with pleasure. No matter what your skill or background, this workshop will have you painting watercolors and loving it in a matter of minutes.

"I very much enjoyed and appreciated your class (Spontaneous Watercolor) at Santa Rosa J.C. yesterday.  Your class was informative, stimulating and a great deal of fun.  I was impressed with how smoothly you worked with so many of us and took us through a great deal of material, all done with graceful manner and light touch, a smile and good humor.  This was impressive due to our rather large number and the tremendous amount of material you covered.  It truly was a six week course in one day and made easily grasped by your refined and finely tuned approach to the many aspects of watercolor - from paints themselves the quality and behavior of, to brushes and types, weights and characteristics of papers involved.  The exercises and notes you gave us were so well thought out, covering just about any aspect of painting we wished to pursue....Your watercolor class was tremendously illuminating and I very much enjoy the immediacy of the medium.  Thank you for such a wonderful class which was highlighted with your wisdom and philosophy."
S.L. Santa Rosa, CA

DRAWING WITHOUT FEAR

TO BE ANNOUNCED

Now you can draw without having to hide underneath the bed afterwards. You can draw without cold sweats, panic attacks, or feelings of imminent doom that may have plagued you before! The art of drawing is fun and easy to learn when you get beyond the fear of failure. When you join this easy unique drawing class, you will be in for some surprises. This enjoyable day should remove any drawing phobias you may have and open your creative expression for a life time of drawing pleasure.

Mr. Dvorak's book, Drawing Without Fear, outlines and illustrates the message in this workshop.

“Your class yesterday at DeAnza was so much fun and motivated me to start drawing every day. More importantly, it helped me think about how to defeat the fear and self-criticism that sometimes leads to being stuck in art and in life. My right brain really got a workout, especially doing the drawing with the inked string. I think I might be hooked on that.

You did a great job of making the class safe, keeping it fun, and keeping it moving so we got to experience lots of different ways of drawing. I really liked the variety and your great balance of instruction and practice time.  Thanks very much for offering this class!”  Julie Scott

Robert Regis Dvorak, FAAR, a professional speaker on the subject of creative selling.  He is the author of the book, Selling Art 101.

“Just a note to say thanks for all your great advice and sharing of life experience. I attended your class The Art of Selling Art the other night at the JC in Santa Rosa. You were right about it being life-changing. I was a little skeptical when you said that but I've found myself thinking about interactions differently and less rigidly since hearing what you have to say and reading your book. For example, I just sent a note to a potential boss (we are in the interview stage) offering my graphic design services for his backlog in a freelance or temp-to-hire capacity while he makes his decision. I NEVER would have done that before. My attitude now even has flickers of "hey it's fine either way" which is frankly a revelation. Also, listening listening listening.”  Jessica B.

MASTERING THE WHITE PAPER IN WATERCOLOR

March 3, 10, 17, 24, 2021. Pacific Art League, Palo Alto, CA.Wednesday, 2– 3:30 PM, Mastering the White in Watercolor Online.   To register call:  650.321.3891 x: 106 or go on line to: https://pacificartleague.asapconnected.com

Follow in the footsteps of John Singer Sargent and Winslow Homer as you learn, through a series of carefully crafted exercises, how to make your watercolors come alive with the light of the white. The transparency of watercolor demands that you work from white to dark. You will learn that where we leave the paper clean and white is just as important as where we put color. Light in a painting is expressed through values and contrasts— the more brilliant the light, the greater the contrast.  Contrasts make your painting come alive. Whether you are a beginner or a more advanced painter, you will benefit from this workshop.  Mastering the white paper is one of the most important skills in watercolor painting.

Robert Regis Dvorak, FAAR, has been making drawing and painting fun and easy to learn for 35 years. He is a professional speaker on all subjects of creativity in business and education.  He is also an accomplished watercolor artist and oil painter. He has authored six books on drawing: Drawing without Fear, The Pocket Drawing Book, The Magic of Drawing, Experiential Drawing, The Practice of Drawing as Meditation, and Travel Drawing and Painting. He also wrote: Selling Art 101. He has produced a number of animated films featured in festivals in the USA, Europe, and Australia. He has worked as an architectural designer and is a former professor of architecture at the universities of Oregon and California, Berkeley.  He is a Fellow of the American Academy in Rome.
